The Bulmershe School PE Department (X/Twitter @Bulmershe_PE) aims to raise standards in PE and Sport for all students across the ability range, leading to whole school improvement. Former specialist status has brought many exciting sporting opportunities and experiences for our students offering unique opportunities for all to develop their sporting talent and potential within a broad and balanced curriculum that places great emphasis on the development of the whole child.
The staff in the PE Department create a busy and vibrant environment in which pupils enjoy four hours a fortnight of core PE lessons in Year 7 and Year 8, three hours a fortnight of core PE in Year 9, one hour a week of PE in year 10 (some students have three a fortnight) and year 11. At Key Stage 4 we offer AQA GCSE PE, Duke of Edinburgh, Rookie Lifeguard and Sports Leaders. At Key Stage 5 we offer AQA A Level Physical Education and BTEC National Extended Certificate in Sport.
Staff in the PE Department have extremely high expectations and are proud of the success of students at KS3, KS4 & KS5 as well as success in various sporting fields. The PE Department are always looking to challenge students further and are constantly developing their own teaching and learning strategies. Within the department we have 1 AQA exam board moderator, a certified Google Trainer and a Duke of Edinburgh Basic Expedition Leader along with staff having various practical sporting qualifications.
The Bulmershe School PE Department is proud to boast some of the best sporting facilities in the county, which include 4 football pitches (2 9-a-side and 2 11-a-side), 1 rugby pitch, a cricket wicket, athletics track, fitness suite and spinning room, 5 netball courts, 5 tennis courts, 2 outdoor basketball courts and access to an Olympic Gymnastics venue. We are also privileged to have a Goals Centre (10 5-a-side football pitches and 2 7-a-side football pitches), Kingfisher Table Tennis Club and Bulmershe Gymnastics Club on site. Our brand new £14 million sports centre includes a four court badminton size sports hall for sports such as badminton, handball, basketball and volleyball, a 25 metre 6 lane swimming pool and a smaller teaching pool with a moveable floor.
